What is dBASE Plus?
dBASE Plus is the latest incarnation of the hugely popular dBASE programming language that has been around for nearly twenty years. If you are an xBASE or dBASE programmer, you may want to consider using dBASE Plus to transition from prior versions of dBASE or other xBase dialects in DOS or Windows to the latest version of dBASE that runs under Windows and on the web.
dBASE Plus is dBASE and then some. Start with the traditions of dBASE, graft in the power of object-based programming and rapid web development and you have dBASE Plus. dBASE Plus builds on the
traditions of dBASE files and adds the power of SQL for data access.
The dBASE Plus integrated development environment (IDE) combines the code
editor, debugger and visual designer into one easy to use system. dBASE's
code editor features automatic syntax highlighting and color-coding.
Color-coding helps in finding syntactical errors and aids in learning the
language. dBASE Plus Designer makes creating forms as simple as drag-and-drop.
dBASE 2000's debugger aids in finding and fixing errors in your dBASE Plus code.
dBASE Plus has added object-based programming without loosing the original
dBASE language. This makes porting legacy dBASE code to dBASE Plus an easier
road to travel.
dBASE Plus simplifies developing both desktop and client/server Data-centric
applications. dBASE Plus has native support for the Borland Database Engine
(BDE) for driving popular databases like Access, xBASE, Paradox and SQL.
dBASE Plus also offers support for ODBC and many other data sources.
Lastly dBASE Plus comes with a wide selection of components, wizards and
other helpful tools that aid in dBASE Plus development.
